Quick Review: Claude.AI by Anthrophic

Review methodology: At the top (here) I will include my original prompt, followed by mentions of any editing and/or reprompts done. I will note how many tries it took to get it to say what I want it to say, how useful I think it might be to marketing copywriters, and my final thoughts on that particular AI-assisted copywriting machine before sharing the completed version generated by the LLM.

Original prompt: Write me a brief review about using Claude for marketing copywriters. It should follow the following format, with a focus on how marketing copywriters in the B2C and B2B space can use Claude to speed up workflows. Use a positive, conciliatory tone.

  • Name of AI
  • Model last updated until when
  • Pricing tiers available
  • Best used for what types of marketing collateral
  • Who might best utilize it

Additional prompts added? Yes, and like previous reviews, this is again about pricing. None of them will give clear answers about how much it costs to use them at first glance, which means the user will need to fact check (and honestly, you really should, every time, for something like this). Interestingly after bitching about it to Claude, it added more information about the pricing at the bottom of the review. It’s quite good with context.

Editing done: Mainly formatting as Blogger is quite the ass and doesn’t respect Markdown.

Thoughts: My initial impression of Claude was that it was pretty useless for my line of work, especially when it kept pointing out that it unable to check live links. I was about to write it off when a colleague who was also testing different AIs said that Claude worked best when you already have input from other sources. What they did was to create the first draft, supplement it with additional information, then pass it along to Claude to refine. I thought I’d give Claude a try with that workflow.

The output that Claude generates tends to be of much better quality than those of Gemini and Perplexity. I’ve been using Gemini mainly to tinker with copy, to get insights and different perspectives I might not have otherwise. Perplexity I keep for first impressions and using it to see what related content I can use it for, but on a surface level, Claude outstrips them both when it comes to tone of voice.

It has a very businesslike tone, and to be brutally honest, writes a lot the same way I do. I’m unsure if it’s inferring from the prompts I give it or if that’s the initial tone of voice given to it by Anthropic, but most times, I catch myself thinking I can use the copy as is, or at the very least, perhaps with a few tweaks to bring it into brand guideline compliance.

However, I have noticed that unlike Gemini and Perplexity, it sticks fairly closely to the initial text you give it, even when you ask it to change it completely, so in that sense, it functions better as a way to reexamine your writing style or to tweak copy rather than as a copy generator.

Things to note: Unlike Gemini and Perplexity, it doesn’t give me a link to share my prompt with a wider crowd, at least not on the free tier. However, it does allow you to copy the entire output of the latest prompt, which makes for easy copy paste. Note that it’s only for the latest prompt you enter - anything before you’ll need to copy manually.

Best used for: Refining copy, rewriting created texts, streamlining texts.
